vCard QR Code: Share Your Contact Details in One Scan

A vCard QR code turns your contact details into a scannable digital business card. Scanning it lets someone save your name, phone, email, and company straight to their contacts.

TLinky offers this as two separate types. Static vCard encodes the contact data directly into the code, with no way to edit it later.

Dynamic vCard stores the data on TLinky’s servers instead, so you can update it anytime the same code stays in circulation.

Static vs Dynamic vCard: Which to Pick

Static vCard works fine if your details are permanent and you never plan to change roles, numbers, or companies.

Dynamic vCard is the safer default for most people, since a job change, new phone number, or new title only needs a dashboard edit, not a reprint.

Dynamic vCard also logs scans, so you can see how many people actually saved your contact card.

For the tradeoffs beyond vCard specifically, see what a dynamic QR code is and how it compares to a static one.

How a vCard QR Code Works

Scanning either version opens a downloadable contact file that most phones recognize immediately and offer to add to contacts with one tap.

Static vCard reads directly from the code itself. Dynamic vCard pulls the current version of your details from TLinky’s servers each time it is scanned.

How to Create a vCard QR Code in TLinky

  1. Sign in to your TLinky account, click Create, then pick QR Code.
  2. Name the code. A domain is assigned automatically based on your plan when you choose the dynamic version.
  3. Choose Static vCard or vCard (dynamic) from the type list.
  4. Enter your name, phone, email, company, and any other contact fields.
  5. Pick templates, colors, and design, click Generate QR, then Save Changes.

Download as SVG, PNG, WebP, or PDF once saved, ready for a business card, email signature, or booth signage.

TLinky’s QR code generator page also generates the static version without an account, though it leaves out full design customization and the editable dynamic version covered above.

Updating a Dynamic vCard

Open the code from your dashboard list, select Edit QR from the 3-dot menu, and update any field.

The same printed code now shows the updated details on the next scan.

FAQ

Which vCard type should I use for a printed business card?

Dynamic vCard is the better default for print, since job titles and numbers change more often than people expect, and a static code cannot be updated once printed.

Does a vCard QR code work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. Both platforms recognize the standard vCard contact format and prompt the user to save the contact after scanning.

Can I track how many people scanned my vCard QR code?

Only the dynamic version tracks scans. Static vCard has no scan analytics since the data is encoded directly with no server involved.

For a physical card, QR codes on business cards covers sizing and placement.

Real estate agents and photographers commonly use vCard for client handoffs, see more use cases on QR codes for real estate and QR codes for photographers.

vCard sits alongside 13 other formats in TLinky’s QR generator. Check the QR code types guide if you need a different type for the same campaign.
